Karon is the second biggest resort area in Phuket, and it offers plenty of great options for people who are looking for a bit of entertainment after dark. Although it is just 10 minutes away from the nighttime delights of Patong, there are many visitors who will just decide to stay local at night because there is so much going on here. Karon offers a good middle ground between the madness of the nightlife in Patong, and the more sedate experience of a Phuket Town venue. Most of the best bars, restaurants, and nightclubs in Karon are to be found on Patak Road, so this means that the nightlife is easy to navigate.

Kamala (กมลา) Beach is a great choice for visitors who are looking for a peaceful tropical beach that has reasonably good amenities nearby. This fishing village area was once considered to be a hidden gem that only tourists in the know got to enjoy, but in recent year it has become more popular. One of the nice things about this part of the island is that it is close enough to the main tourist areas like Patong (just 11km away) for when people want something a bit more intense and lively. Kamala is arguably at its best during the daytime, but there are plenty of things to do here after dark as well.

Phuket has some of the best beaches in the world, and this is one of the main reasons for why it has become such a popular tourist destination – of course the local culture and climate is great too. The most popular and nicest places to relax in the sun are to be found on the west of the island, and this is where all the main resorts are located. There are 35 beaches on the island of Phuket to choose from – a useful map of these beaches has been created by Phuket 101. Some of these locations are difficult to visit because they are attached to a resort. There are no legally private beaches on the island, but the fact that resorts will often block access to these areas means that they are private for practical purposes.

The Songkran festival highlights some of the nicest things about Thai culture. It is a time for sanuk (fun) and family – two things that are of supreme importance to people in this part of the world. This type of talisman is extremely popular in Thailand because these items are believed to provide good luck and protect the owner from harm. Amulets can range in price from 20 baht to millions of baht – depending on the materials used and the reputation of the item. Thai people will often be willing to travel hundreds of miles in order to purchase the latest hit amulet.
